I have never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude.
Henry David Thoreau
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Do what you need to do. There isn’t a better feeling in the world than being able to lay your head down at night with a clear conscience knowing you not only did what was right but you did it the best way that you could.
But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?
The older I get the less I want to fiddle with things. Especially complex things. My bikes for example. I just want to ride. No Desmo BS, not wild about having to lift out a set of cams to adjust valves either. My Thumper below takes me all of an hour to do a full service. Once complete she’s a joy to ride.
I have a Uly that’s about to get traded in for a Honda 650L. Why? It’s simple. It’s simple. Which in my book equals Happiness.
My father says that money can’t buy happiness but it sure makes misery easier to live with. He’s absolutely correct but at the same time living simply clearly has its advantages and to me the rat race just isn’t worth a damn. Too many rats to compete with and in the end it’s a race we’ll all lose.
We may as well all enjoy the ride, to hell with the race.
